Before every reading, a small ritual helps you settle your mind and establish a sacred thread of connection with the deck. The six steps below are not mere formality — they are how you enter a state of stillness so the reading can come through with the greatest clarity.

The Patron Deity Card

King Le Kieu, the Mother Goddess

The spiritual heart of the deck — a gateway to the Mother Goddess. When the deck is at rest, this card is placed on top to invoke and give thanks for her guidance.

The Dharma-Protector Card

The Five Tigers Guardian Officer

The spiritual sentinel — it cleanses stale energy and drives away malevolent forces. When the deck is at rest, this card is placed at the bottom to guard and protect it.

Prepare a serene space
Choose a quiet place, burn incense, and play soft meditation music.
Before you begin, choose a quiet, clean space where your mind will not be distracted. You may burn a stick of fragrant incense or waft herbal smoke to purify the air, and play soft meditation music to bring your own vibrational frequency to its most peaceful state.

The rite of invoking the Mother Goddess
Set aside the Mother Goddess and Five Tigers cards, placing them in the most honored position.
Take out the two special cards — King Le Kieu, the Mother Goddess, together with the Five Tigers Guardian Officer — from the deck. Place these two cards in the most honored position, at the top of the reading cloth, to establish a protected field of energy.

Make your wish and ask for the reading
Place your hand on the Mother Goddess card, close your eyes, and wish with a sincere heart.
Place your hand on the King Le Kieu, the Mother Goddess card, close your eyes, and wish sincerely about the matter troubling you. Pray for the Mother Goddess to bless the reading and guide your wisdom, so that you may see the true nature of things through the historical and legendary images within the deck.

Shuffle to the rhythm of nine
Shuffle in multiples of nine until your heart is truly still.
To create a sacred connection, shuffle the cards in multiples of nine (for example: 9, 18, 27, 36… times). Keep shuffling until you feel your heart grow still and an invisible thread of connection forms between your hands and the cards, then stop.

Cleanse the energy between readings
Glide the Five Tigers card lightly over the deck to wash away old energy.
When reading for many people or many different matters, glide the Five Tigers Guardian Officer card lightly over the remaining cards. The mighty energy of the Five Tigers will wash away old energy, drive off malevolent forces and mental noise, so the next reading stays clear and objective.

Close the reading and put the deck to rest
The Mother Goddess on top, the Five Tigers at the bottom — sealing the flow of energy.
After you finish interpreting, place the King Le Kieu, the Mother Goddess card on top of the deck to give thanks for her guidance. At the same time, place the Five Tigers Guardian Officer card at the bottom to seal the flow of energy and protect the deck from negative influences until its next use.
