“An opposition is the sky's tug-of-war — two energies facing each other across the chart, asking to be balanced rather than chosen between.”
Overview
An opposition forms when two planets sit 180° apart, on exactly opposite sides of the chart. It is an aspect of tension: the two energies pull in contrary directions, each insisting on its own way. Honored, that tension becomes a source of growth — the planets learn to compromise, to borrow each other's strengths and find a middle path that steadies both. Left unchecked, the pull turns to frustration, a standoff between parts of the self that refuse to meet. The gift of the opposition is balance earned through awareness. This energy thrives when its two poles are held together rather than torn apart.
Explore Opposition
Divide a natal chart in two and you find a 180° angle — the opposition. The two planets involved sit directly across from one another, as far apart as the sky allows. That distance generates real tension between them. Yet the same tension is workable: when the two energies find fairness and compromise, the conflict written into them can be turned toward good.
